Famous for their virtues, essential oils or even extracts of Sage were frequently used in traditional medicine since early history. Indeed, grown in different biotopes, Mediterranean Sage essential oils could exhibit its anticancer activity. Anti-tumor activity of sage was proven through its antiangiogenic, anti-migratory and antiproliferative effects.

Sage is well reputed to cure diabetes or prevent its complications. Oral administration of sage essential oil reduced high blood sugar and diabetes-related obesity, liver damage, and kidney damage in a preclinical model of diabetes.During three months, patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus diabetes received Sage tablets (150 mg extract) and showed that the 2 h-postprandial (after-meal) blood sugar and the mean total cholesterol levels were significantly decreased. The obtained results altogether evidenced that Sage EO had hypoglycemic and anti-obesity effects and could be a valuable complement in future diabetes therapy.
