It is very common in our days to use essential oils for better health. Adding a drop or two of an essential oil to your water can enhance the flavor—and make staying hydrated tastier. But which essential oils should you add to water? Is doing so safe?
According to the Food and Drug Administration of America, there are dozens of essential oils that are Generally Recognized as Safe for Human Consumption. These essential oils are included in everything from chewing gum to soda, candies, and more.
If you are ready to create a water infusion with essential oils, here are some tips for adding essential oils to water.
First and foremost, not all oils should be ingested. Check with the manufacturer, as ones that make ingestible oils typically note that on the packaging. Also, oils can be added to fruit in water, or can replace the fruit entirely.
Did you know that a few drops of Lemon essential oil can be just as effective as fresh squeezed? Keeping a bottle of food-grade lemon oil on hand is also so convenient that there’s literally no excuse not to alkalize and detox daily.
Lemon essential oil can help increase energy levels while aiding in mental clarity. This oil has also been known to help with heartburn, acne, gallstones, and respiratory issues. Adding a few drops to your water in the morning will activate your metabolism, balance pH levels and reverse inflammation.
Moreover, since lemon essential oil is made from the rinds, not from the juice, its pH is neutral rather than acidic. That means easier absorption, safer detoxing and no risk of dental damage. The oil also has more antioxidants than lemon juice, containing a powerful detoxifier called d-limonene. As lemon oil is highly concentrated, it’s important to note that only a few drops are needed – a little goes a long way!
How to use it:
Add a few drops of highest-quality, food grade Lemon essential oil to a glass of warm water first thing in the morning. Remember, a little goes a long way when it comes to oils. Some sensitivity can occur when using essential oils, so consult a doctor if a problem does develop. Drop a few more into a water bottle later in the day (be sure to use a glass water bottle, as the oil can erode plastic).
Peppermint essential oil is oil commonly added to water, and ideal for a refreshing drink on a hot day. It can be soothing and aid in digestion.
Orange essential oil gives water flavor. It’s known to purify and stimulate the senses and can support a healthy immune system. Plus, it has antioxidants.
Grapefruit essential oil can be added to water. The scent and flavor are motivating, and can improve metabolism. Just like people say grapefruit can be useful in weight management, it may be useful for the same when a drop or two of this oil are added to water.
